Has Icelands Legendary Worm Monster Been Caught on Tape?
61Amonster or a fraud?
Folklore or elaborate hoax?
At Lake Lagarfjot on February 2nd a man and his cell phone caught on videt what appears to be a giant snake monster. The video has gone viral.
The video was shot by Hjortur Kjerulf at the Icelandic lake and shows what appears to be a snake like creature swimming in the freezing lake. Lake Lagarfjot is 25 miles long and 367 feet deep it is infamous for being the home of a legendary beast called the Lagarfljotsormurinn, the country's version of the Loch Ness Monster.
Some people feel the creature is a hoax because of he robotic look of it. Another unusual creature was seen in Lake Lagarfjot in 1998 when a group of students and their teacher reported seeing pale, humped animal with sprouting whiskers that was about 50 feet long.
Local legend has it that a huge worm like creature lives in the deep water of Lake Lagarfjot. Until now no evidence of its existence was available. Reports of the snake/worm like beast have been around since 1345 when an eyewitness described seeing a huge snake like reptile.
According to the legend the creature comes from a small worm, which was placed in a ring of gold to enhance its size. Instead of growing into a larger worm it became a gigantic snake monster. Both the snake and the ring were thrown into the lake.
Icelandians believe that seeing the creature is a bad omen.
