Whitney Houston dead at 48

The news of Whitney Houston's death at the young age of 48 is tragic, but not a completely unexpected story. Whitney once ruled the pop music scene with the voice and looks of a goddess.

Many will blame the drugs for her early demise, but I believe the truth is love killed Whitney Houston. Whitney's life was a fairy tale storybook until she met bad boy Bobby Brown who led her down a long path of self destruction..

Whitney died early Saturday evening. The pop diva was supposed to attend the pre-grammy gala., but was found dead just hours before the event in her Beverly Hilton Hotel room.Paramedics attempted to revive her with no success.

Police told media that there were no signs of 'criminal intent.' An autopsy will be scheduled.
Whitney's long time publicist made a statement saying that 'the cause of death is unknown.'

Hotel security called 911 from Whitney's room after they were asked by Grammy staff to check on her. TMZ.com reported that Whitney's body was found in the bath tub. Officials say they do not believe her death was alcohol related, but several bottles of pills were found in her room.

Whitney had spoken to both her mother and cousin Dionne Warwick less than an hour before her death.

The Grammy's quickly put together a tribute to Whitney. The night is being hosted by Jennifer Hudson.

Rev. Al Sharpton will call for a national prayer this morning during a service at Second Baptist Church located in Los Angeles.

From the mid 1980's to early 1990's Whitney was the IT girl. She found mega success as a singer and an actress. Whitney shined on the big screen in both "The Body Guard" and "Waiting to Exhale." Before Bobby Brown, Whitney always had 'perfect poise.'

Over the last several years her marriage and drugs had become great burdens. She went from being a beautiful woman to looking beyond haggard and displaying bizarre behavior. Her once pristine voice became raspy and forced.

This is a tragic ending for a story that should have ended with Happily Ever After.

Another talented singer gone before her time. Good article.

This event makes me very say. I always hoped she would bounce back. I believe her husband is truly responsible for her early demise. But we are all responsible for our own actions too. Drugs are a horrible thing, and that is probably what killed her. It is a shame as God gave her one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard and she threw that gift away.

I agree with you that she had to take responsibility for the direction her life took, but one must wonder what she could have achieved had she never met Bobby Brown...such a sad ending to what started as an amazing story.

Addiction is cunning, powerful and baffling. It is an equal opportunity destroyer. RIP Whitney. Thank you for the joy of your music.

Why blame it on the bad boy? I've been the bad boy for years, and I bet most of my ex-girlfriends will outlast me! THe females I was with were intelligent, talented, and wonderful. They had their own lives, and chose to share mine. My bad habits may have taken somewhat of a toll on them, but not much. Most are still friends of mine, and we truly like and love each other. Bobby Brown may have ben an asshole, but I doubt he was the cause of her demise. I find it intolerable of females who want to be treated equally who blame a guy on their problems. Whitney grew up in the Hollywood culture. I grew up in Queens and Brooklyn. I found plenty of temptations in a poor nighborhood. I know she had plenty in hers. I chose my demons, and still lived a life of activism. No girls or boys took me off my path. Whitney had far more avenues available to her from the time she was a child, than anyone I ever knew. She had ample opportunity to find a "good boy". Obviously she was looking for something else. So it seems to me that she was to blame for where her life, and ultimately death, lead her. It's time to stop feeling sorry for rich people who live and die the way so many poor and normal people do. And the ones with no fame get no fond remembrances, even though they may have helped alter other people lives.

James 'Guin' McGuinnes...you are not a 'bad boy', but instead a rebel with a cause. You stand for things that matter. You are one of the people I keep closest to my heart and never would you put a person through what Bobby Brown put Whitney through. He drug her into his world and when he saw the lifestyle he brought her into destroying her he bolted and left her to fend for herself.
